BCP
Plain-Language Definition
Business Continuity Plan — a documented plan that ensures critical building services and business operations can continue during and recover after disruptive events: natural disasters, utility failures, fire, pandemic, security incidents.
Technical Context
Building BCP covers: emergency response procedures, critical system redundancy (power, water, IT), communication protocols, alternate site arrangements, recovery time objectives (RTO), recovery point objectives (RPO), roles and responsibilities, testing schedule. BCP follows ISO 22301 (Business Continuity Management Systems). Testing: tabletop exercises annually, full simulation every 2-3 years.
Why It Matters
Without BCP, a building disruption becomes a business disruption. Dhaka is vulnerable to: cyclones, flooding, earthquakes, prolonged power outages, political disruption. MNC tenants require BCP evidence during due diligence. Insurance premiums are lower for buildings with tested BCPs.
