KPI

Plain-Language Definition

Key Performance Indicator — a quantifiable measurement used to evaluate the performance of building operations against defined targets. Building KPIs cover energy, maintenance, comfort, safety, cost, and service quality.

Technical Context

Essential building KPIs: EUI (kWh/m²/yr), PPM compliance (%), planned:reactive ratio, MTTR, lift availability (%), occupancy cost (BDT/m²/yr), tenant satisfaction score, safety incident rate, water use intensity (L/m²/yr), waste diversion rate (%). KPIs should be: specific, measurable, time-bound, benchmarked against industry standards (IFMA, RICS, BOMA).

Why It Matters

KPIs make building performance visible and manageable. "You can't manage what you don't measure." Without KPIs, building management is subjective. With KPIs, performance can be tracked, benchmarked, improved, and reported. MNC headquarters expect KPI dashboards from their facility teams.
